Wine Tasting: Chateau Ste. Michelle Riesling and Martin's Rake Sauvignon Blanc
The first wine I tried was Chateau Ste. Michelle Riesling (#3 on the board). The variety of grapes in this wine are made exclusively of riesling grapes. The country of origin is the United States and the region of origin is the Columbia Valley in California. The vintage year is 2022 and at Kroger it retails for $9.99 a bottle.
I found a detailed review of the Chateau Ste. Michelle Riesling on the honest wine review website. They split this review up into its appearance, aroma, taste, and finish. Their overall review of this wine was that it is a balanced wine that wasn't very sweet and more on the dry side. They tasted floral and fruity flavors.
Wine folly: Page 158 on the wine folly textbook focuses on Riesling grapes. They mentioned that these grapes sweetness can vary, but they have high acidity, and low tannin levels. This grape tends to have green apple and floral flavors (page 158). The wine has aromas from the tree fruit/melon group (page 30).
I tried this wine alone without any food. This wine has a light yellow coloration. The aromas I smelt from this wine were fruity; pear and some floral hints. I found this wine dry with a fruity flavor. The fruity flavors that I were tasting were pear, apple, and some melon.
The second wine that I tried is the Martin's Rake Sauvignon Blanc (#5 on the board). The variety of grapes that make up this wine is sauvignon blanc. The country of origin is New Zealand, in the Marlborough region. The vintage year I tried is 2022. This wine retails for $12.99 a bottle at Kroger.
On the website www.gerbes.com I found multiple reviews on Martin's Rake Sauvignon Blanc. There are a total of 17 reviews/ratings with 6 of them giving this wine 5 stars and 1 giving it 1 star. The rest of the ratings varied between 4-2 stars. A lot of reviews mentioned that this wine is a "perfect summer wine", and that it is a "crisp, fruity, and tropical" wine.
Wine Folly: On page 165 they talk about the Sauvignon Blanc grape. This grape tends to have low levels of sweetness, high acidity, and a medium body. Lots of the flavors that this grape tends to have are herbal and fruity (page 166). The aromas of this wind are in the citrus and vegetable/herbal group (page 30).
I did not try this wine with any food. This wine has a pale yellow/gold color. It has a fruity and herbal aroma. They fruity aromas its citrusy. This wine is dry. A got a lot of herbal flavors when tasting this wine. I also picked up the citrus, pear, and apple flavoring. I found this wine to be tart.
