Wine Tasting: Cantina di Castelnuovo del Garda Pinot Grigio della Venezie

Wine Tasting: Cantina di Castelnuovo del Garda Pinot Grigio della Venezie

On Thursday, March 27th, I visited the Vintage Cellar in Blacksburg, VA, for their weekly wine tasting.
One of the white wines that they had to sample was the Cantina di Castelnuovo del Garda Pinot Grigio della Venezie. This wine is made up of 100% Pinot Grigio grapes. The country of origin is Italy, in the Veneto region. The vintage year is 2023 and a bottle of this wine retails for $8.95 at the vintage cellar.

I found a total of 37 review of this wine on the Vivino website; which is a website that sells various wines from all over the world. This wine had an average rating of 3.6 out of 5 stars. Most of the reviews mentioned that this wine was dry and crisp with floral aromas. People mentioned flavors of various fruits like apple, pear, etc.

Wine Folly: Page 149 in the wine folly textbook focuses on Pinot Grigio. They mention that this grape can vary from being plain sweet to dry. The Pinot Grigio della Venezie is on the dry end of the spectrum. These grapes tend to have flavors like white peach, lemon zest, and cantaloupe. While tasting this wine I was able to pick up lots of citrus, lemon flavors and hints of peach. As for the aromas I got apple (tree fruit), lemon (citrus), and florals like honeysuckle (page 30).

I did not try this wine with food. This wine has a light yellow color and the aromas have a lot of floral hints which make it smell very fresh and summery. I could mell honeysuckle, various flowers, and apples. I found this wine to be on the dry side, but had a fruity and citrus flavor. I immediately could taste apple,  honeysuckle, lemon, and peach. I typically don't like wines on the dryer side but I enjoyed trying this wine and think it would mix well with a light seafood pasta.
