My Experience with Wine

Hi, my name is Alana Smith-Greenwell! Welcome to my blog where I will write about my prior and future experiences with wine. I have been able to drink wine legally for 2 years now so I have some experience with wine but not as much as most people my age. I'm not much of a drinker but I do enjoy learning more about different types of alcohol, especially wine so that I can see what I like. Whenever I go to the store to pick out wine for a wine night with my friends I always get intimidated by the wide selection; which results in my making my friends choose instead. This class excites me because I can explore and learn more about wine. I'm excited to learn not only what types of wines I like but the history of wine. 

I've typically only had wine during gatherings; whether it be for a celebration, holiday party, or just a night with my friends. At these gatherings, I have tried reds, whites, champagnes, and Moscato. In the past, I honestly haven't been a fan of much wine at all other than a cheap bottle of Moscato that my friend got one night. I have realized that I definitely like sweet wines more than bitter ones. I have also tried sangria which isn't necessarily a type of wine but rather a "wine punch" because it includes a red wine as a base with various fruits. 

I am taking this course with one of my friends so it will nice for us to have this experience together. We are seniors and this is our last semester at Virginia Tech so we wanted to have a fun class that allows us to learn more about topics we don't have much prior knowledge on. We both really want to try and do the winery tour/visit assignment. I've never been to a winery before, but I know that there are a lot around the Blacksburg area that we could visit. I'm also looking forward to learning more about the history of wine. The first lecture video talked about a lot of cool facts that I probably would not have heard about without taking this class.

 Wine T asting : Lodali Moscato d'Asti and Doktor Strawberry Moscato NV 3.) The first wine I tried was the Lodali Moscato d'Asti. The Grape that makes up this wine is Moscato. It originates from Italy, in the northern Italy/Piemonte/Moscato d'Asti region. The vintage year of this bottle is 2022. A bottle ranges from $12-16. The other wine that I tried was the Doktor Strawberry Moscato NV. This wine is made of the Moscato grape with some strawberry flavoring. The country of origin is northwest Italy in the Piemonte region. The vintage year is 2022. Wine Tasting: Cantina di Castelnuovo del Garda Pinot Grigio della Venezie

  Wine Tasting:  Cantina di Castelnuovo del Garda P inot Grigio della Venezie On Thursday, March 27th, I visited the Vintage Cellar in Blacksburg, VA, for their weekly wine tasting. One of the white wines that they had to sample was the  Cantina di Castelnuovo del Garda P inot Grigio della Venezie. This wine is made up of 100% Pinot Grigio grapes. The country of origin is Italy, in the Veneto region. The vintage year is 2023 and a bottle of this wine retails for $8.95 at the vintage cellar.  I found a total of 37 review of this wine on the Vivino website; which is a website that sells various wines from all over the world. This wine had an average rating of 3.6 out of 5 stars. Most of the reviews mentioned that this wine was dry and crisp with floral aromas.
